Experiencer

This Saturday, I joined a wonderful group of people to visit the New Sunshine Hospital, where we had the honor of delivering toys to children. We have done this every holiday season, and for the past two years, Hangzhou Goodwill Activists have collaborated with Hangzhou Rotary.

This year, our efforts raised enough toys to support three different children’s hospitals! At New Sunshine Hospital, which kicked off our holiday celebrations, we masked up and delivered nearly 100 toys to boys and girls who, unfortunately, call this hospital “home”. Handing out toys during the holidays is always a joy, but doing so at a children’s hospital leaves an indelible mark on your heart. Seeing the children smile and run back to their parents, excitedly clutching their gifts, was overwhelming. It was a deeply emotional experience; many of us were holding back tears, and one of our members found it too heartbreaking to enter the ward. For me, the heaviness of the experience lingers for days. The nurses and doctors who work in these wards are absolute heroes; their daily dedication continues to amaze me.

It was heartening to see so many people eager to volunteer. Locals and foreigners alike united for the same purpose: to bring smiles and positivity to the holidays for children, their families, and the dedicated hospital staff.

We look forward to continuing this tradition next year. Happy holidays, everyone!
