HZ gears up for a spectacular October of sports events

Hangzhou is witnessing a series of top-tier sports events in October, including 7 international-level competitions, 12 national-level events, and over 10 provincial and municipal games.

From Oct 11 to 13, the Canoe Hangzhou Super Cup was held at the Fuyang Water Sports Center, a Hangzhou Asian Games venue. Champions who competed in the Seine during the Paris Olympics now took the Fuchun River in Hangzhou as their arena. On the opening day, Ukrainian star Liudmyla Babak set a new world record in the women’s canoe marathon short-distance 3.4 km preliminaries, finishing with a time of 18 minutes, 25.440 seconds.

This week, the Hangzhou Golf Open 2024 officially kicks off today at the West Lake Golf Club, another Asian Games venue, featuring top golfers from around the world. The event will be followed by the 2024 IWWF Wakeboard World Championships to be held at Xianghu Lake in Xiaoshan district, offering spectators a thrilling experience of water sports. The championships will also feature a lively carnival space with interactive activities, including displays of Hangzhou’s intangible cultural heritage, a food market, live band performances, and a hot air balloon experience.

The 2024 Qiandao Lake International Tennis Open will take place at Qiandao Lake Tennis Park on Oct 20. Later in the month, Hangzhou will host the much-anticipated 2024 FAI World Drone Racing Championship.

In addition, national-level competitions in sports such as hockey, cricket, soccer, basketball, cycling, and squash will also be held in Hangzhou, further highlighting the city’s growing appeal as a hub for international sporting events.
