The Chun'an (Qiandao Lake) Whisky Brewing Program, funded by the UK-based Angus Dundee Distillers PLC, is commenced construction in Chun'an county this month.

The Chun'an Malt Whisky Brewing Project with a total investment of 700 million yuan is planned to cover around 10 acres for its distillery. The project aims to demonstrate the integration of whisky production with tourism, giving visitors a tour experience of learning about whisky brewing while savoring the liquor.

"We chose to build it here because of the excellent local water quality and beautiful environment that allows us to craft the finest Chinese single malt whisky. Our goal is to establish a highly iconic distillery targeted to be a top-tier producer of single malt whisky in both China and Asia," said Aaron N Hillman, the company director.

Upon completion, its initial annual production capacity will reach 1.5 million liters, with a potential of making 3 million liters. Once the distillery reaches full production, it is expected to generate an annual gross revenue of over 600 million yuan and over 120 million yuan for tax.

The Project is expected to be completed in two years, with the first batch of Qiandao Lake Whisky to be launched into market five years from now. It aims to collaborate with local farmers to produce domestically crafted whisky with Chinese malt and yeast and to establish a premier whisky distillery in Asia.
