After more than five years of construction, Tianmushan Road Tunnel, between Huancheng Road (N) and Tianmushan Road, has officially opened, marking the complete unlocking of Qiantang Expressway, the longest east-west urban expressway in Hangzhou.
Qiantang Expressway is crucial in Hangzhou's urban expressway network. It serves as a central artery running through the middle of the city and holds significant importance as a transportation infrastructure for the Hangzhou Asian Games. Stretching 48 kilometers from Liuxia on the western side to Hezhuang Avenue in Qiantang district on the eastern end, the expressway passes through Yuhang, Xihu, Shangcheng, and Qiantang districts. With no traffic lights along the expressway, vehicles can finish the entire length in about 50 minutes.
The recently opened Tianmushan Road Tunnel is a central section of the Qiantang Expressway, stretching approximately 5.69 kilometers. The surrounding areas of Tianmushan Road encompass numerous residential zones and commercial complexes, accommodating a population of several hundred thousand residents. The seamless integration of Qiantang Expressway significantly improves the convenience of commuting for the local populace.
This expressway interconnects with such north-south express routes as Zhonghe Viaduct and Qiushi Viaduct, to highly enhance the city's long-distance rapid transit capabilities, offering greater convenience for commuters and propelling balance in urban development.
