The opening ceremony of the 2023 Silk Road Week was held at the China National Silk Museum in Hangzhou on July 12, aiming to promote the spirit of the Silk Road and the development of the Belt-and-Road Initiatives.
Themed with "The Silk Road: Long Roads & Mutual Goals", the event is sponsored by the National Cultural Heritage Administration and the Zhejiang provincial government. Xie Bing, Deputy Director-general of the National Cultural Heritage Administration, briefed attendees on the history of the Silk Road Week. It was launched in 2020. This year's events scheduled with institutions from home and abroad will last to late October.
Hu Wei, Vice Governor of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government emphasized Zhejiang's importance on the Silk Road as the birthplace of silk and a major silk production region.
The Convergence of Civilizations: Dunhuang on the Silk Road special exhibition for this year's Silk Road Week kicked off on the same day and will be on until August 22. More than 100 cultural relics from Dunhuang are on display, among which 40 pieces are the first-class national treasures. Most of them are seen for the first time in Hangzhou and some even in Zhejiang province.
On the exhibition, the No. 285 Grotto restored in the original size makes it as real as entering the actual Grotto for the visitors to savor its unique charm.
Other major events including the exhibition of the Silk Robes for Princes -Luxury Silks and Velvets from Hungary's Esterházy Treasury and activities such as Silk and Silk Roads Symposium, the 2023 Silk Road Week Curator Seminar, Silk Road Fashion Night and so on will be launched at the China National Silk Museum.
In addition, in October in Hungary, the guest country of honor, there will be an exhibition of Silk and the Silk Road: From Hangzhou to Samarkand and the closing ceremony of the 2023 Silk Road Week in Budapest.
Szilard Bolla, the Consul-general of Hungary in Shanghai, delivered a speech at the ceremony, stating that the 2023 Silk Road Week is a classic case of enhancing mutual respect, cooperation and understanding among peoples from different countries.
