Hangzhou is always a city of flowers, especially in springs.
Right now, as cherry blossoms are passing their flourishing period, the spherical wood hydrangeas have shown their eagerness to take the top spot in the kingdom of flowers.
When going for a walk, you can always come across a cluster of wood hydrangeas, which bloom for a long time, some may even last to as late as August. The Linping Park, Breeze-ruffled Lotus at Quyuan Garden, Xianghu Lake are some of the places to admire them.
At the Xianghu Lake, blooms are emerging from the branches these days. Before long, they will turn from cyan to white with the flower balls hanging from the branches and with some being so heavy that they may make the branches bending to the ground. Here are two recommended routes to watch the wood hydrangeas around the Xianghu Lake!
Route1: (From the Wohong Bridge to the Chengshan Square) To be precise, you may search the Xianghu Fishing Village Parking Lot on the map to locate it. By the Yuewang Road stands a wood hydrangea forest where trees are taller and denser. Stepping into it is like entering into the mysterious realm of flowers.
Route 2: (The Hydrangea Path in the Meishan Island Wood). Recently, the pink evening cherry and the pure white hydrangea are in a harmonious contrast to each other along the path, forming into a visual feast!
Additionally, if the Xianghu Lake is a bit too far for you, there are other equally attractive alternatives. The CBD Park in the Qianjiang New Town which is close to the Qiantang River is patched with many wood hydrangeas but known by fewer people. In the Chengbei Sports Park, besides wood hydrangeas, there are also football fields, greenways and a camping area. Nothing is better than having a picnic there while admiring the flowers!
