I come from Malaysia. Influenced by my parents, I am a sports lover as well. In my childhood, my family always watched sports games on television. I had tennis and swimming lessons regularly.
To volunteer at the Asian Games is a dream of mine.
Last year, I was disappointed when the application period to be a volunteer had ended before I was able to return to school. But when I learned the news that the Asian Games was to be postponed for a year and that the second round of volunteers recruitment was on, I applied without hesitation. How often does a prime opportunity like this occur within your reach?
During the interview in my university, a few reporters suddenly showed up in the room and started filming us. At the sight of this, I immediately had clammy hands as I was ten times more nervous than I had been before. I tried not to look directly at any of their huge cameras as I was afraid it would show how nervous I was. I remember telling myself to be the real me.
I hope to be able to contribute to the Asian Games. Especially in this city that will be my home in the coming three years, I hope that by lending a helping hand, I can make someone else's experience of the games and the city more enjoyable and memorable.
There is a Chinese proverb that goes, 'gifting roses leaves a lasting fragrance on one's hands', the joy and plenitude that comes from helping others is just as heart-warming as when one receives it.
