The Zhejiang University New Year Gala 2025 was probably one of the most spectacular New Year celebrations for both local and international students in Hangzhou. With captivating performances and 2,025 drones illuminating the sky, the event left a warm and lasting impression, despite the winter chill. Three international students who performed on stage that evening shared their experiences and heartfelt wishes with Hangzhoufeel readers.
When you enjoy the show, the cold is really nothing
Ruth Tiang En (Malaysia)
Happy 2025! I was so glad to perform at the Zhejiang University New Year Gala 2025 once again. It was so cool performing the musical I like with other music lovers. Our performance combined two songs: “Mamma Mia” and “Dancing Queen.” I really appreciate the choreography and everyone’s effort that made this show so wonderful. When you enjoy the show, the cold is really nothing.
In 2025, I hope to immerse myself in the beauty of Hangzhou, see the sunrise, go hiking, etc. If I have the chance to shoot any sports event, that would be great too. Yes, I love sports photography, and from the bottom of my heart, I want to say “thank you” to those who gave me the chance to shoot in 2024. But the most important thing is that I can graduate on time. Stay healthy, stay positive, dream big, dream on!
We performed right after the countdown
Noppanica Sripatarapong
(Thailand)
Hello! I am Ivy (Noppanica Sripatarapong) from Thailand, a third-year medical student at Zhejiang University.
Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to perform with the Zhejiang University Cheerleading Team at the New Year Gala. We had the honor of performing right after the countdown, marking the first show of the year. I had the privilege of dancing a classic cheerleading sequence designed to uplift the New Year spirit, as well as a Chinese ethnic minority dance that earned us a bronze medal at the national level. The temperature on performance day was exceptionally cold, so we had to stay at the warm backstage as we prepared for our routines and quickly changed costumes.
My time in Hangzhou has been nothing short of exhilarating, filled with new experiences and unforgettable moments. As I look ahead, I am optimistic that 2025 will continue to be a wonderful year, filled with great opportunities for me to learn and grow in Hangzhou’s vibrant environment. I sincerely hope that 2025 brings joy and prosperity to all of us. May it be our best year yet.
Every step leading to the Gala was thrilling
Anna Van (Russia)
I’m Anna Van from Russia, a graduate student at College of Media and International Culture, Zhejiang University. 2024 marks my second year at Zhejiang University, and my second time hosting the New Year Gala.
There were eight hosts, and Eric and I were the two international students. Besides the opening and closing, we were also in charge of broadcasting the third chapter’s program and the New Year countdown.
From the interviews and selection process to practicing the hosting script and trying on gowns, every step leading to the Gala was thrilling. We wore grand gowns, though they weren’t warm, but our directing team took great care of us, ensuring our comfort and excitement throughout. I’m deeply grateful to them.
There were so many beautiful and touching moments that night, and they will stay in my heart forever.
I’d like to thank my fellow hosts, all the performers who worked so hard, and the audience who joined us in the cold to celebrate the New Year. Special thanks go to the teachers and directing team--your dedication made the party shine. We look forward to next year and wish everyone a happy New Year.
