HZ athletes depart for Paris Paralympic Games

The 17th Paralympic Games, taking place from Aug 28 to Sept 8 in Paris, France, features 22 sports and 549 events, with approximately 4,400 athletes from 160 countries and regions.

This marks the 11th time China has sent a delegation to the Summer Paralympic Games. The Chinese delegation consists of 516 members, including 284 athletes and 232 coaches, staff, and competition assistants. Among them, 16 athletes are from Hangzhou, marking the largest number in history and accounting for 42% of the athletes from Zhejiang Province.

These 16 athletes will compete in seven sports: swimming, athletics, cycling, weightlifting, taekwondo, blind football, and canoeing.

Among the Hangzhou athletes are Paralympic champions and world record holders, including three-time Paralympic cycling champion Li Zhiyu and two-time Paralympic weightlifting champion Tan Yuqiao. Meanwhile, emerging newcomers such as swimmer Zhu Ji, field athlete Xue Enhui, and taekwondo athlete Yao Yinan will be making their Paralympic debuts.
