Jingshan represents the cradle of the Zen Tea. Since the Tang Dynasty, there has been an unbroken connection between the Buddhist branch and tea. A thousand years ago, Lu Yu, known as the Saint of Tea lived here and penned the Book of Tea, an encyclopedia work in tea. Japanese monks followed the instructions of making tea written in this book, paying their respects and regarding this place as the ancestral temple of the Japanese Buddhist Linji Sect and the inspiration behind the Japanese tea making performances. A millennium later, as you walk along the winding ancient trail, you can still hear the footsteps of the Buddhist devotees, accompanied by the timeless rhythms of the Jingshan tea making--a poignant reminder of the profound connection between Zen belief and the art of tea.
