Every year from May to July is the sika deer breeding season. This year, at least eight adorable baby sika deer were born and joined the Qingliangfeng National Nature Reserve in Lin'an district, Hangzhou. Recently, the deerlets were spotted to hop around outdoors with the mother deer.
Staff at the breeding base observe this cute herd of mountain elves with cable videos, drones and remote inspections without disturbing their natural growth.
Sika deer, generally living in east Asia, is considered a first-class national protected animal in China.
The Qingliangfeng Natural Reserve, established in 1989 to save and protect the endangered animals, was enlisted as one of the excellent cases of biodiversity conservation in Zhejiang Province for South China sika deer in 2023. Here the wild deer population has steadily increased to over 300 thanks to the ongoing scientific research cooperation and habitat ecological restoration.
