Always want to rest in a piece of green land in town? Not a big deal. In Hangzhou, 1,000 urban green spaces will open to the public in succession this year.
Up to now, the Hangzhou Bureau of Gardening and Cultural Relics has sorted out the first batch of 10 urban parks to serve residents' needs in leisure and recreation, namely, Gongshu District Chengbei Sports Park, Gongshu Canal Sports Park, Hangzhou Botanical Garden, Donghu Road Citizen Park, Haitang Park, Wuyue Cultural Park, Jiangyi Park, Xianghu Lake National Tourism Resort, Jinsha Lake Park (Phase I), and Dongwu Park.
Take Chengbei Sports Park as an example. The lawn there is mainly constituted of Manilagrass Lawn which is known for its tolerance to stepping. It is about 70,000 sqm wide and is divided into two large lawns: when one is open to tourists for them to take a rest or have a picnic, the other is closed for maintenance. Some sign boards are set up and a patrol is organized to kindly direct tourists to designated areas to find their leisure solitude.
Currently, barbecue is not allowed in the park, nor using tents on the lawn.
If you are looking for a public park for camping, Xianghu Lake National Tourism Resort and Gongshu Canal Sports Park are two good choices. If you want to spare the trouble of bringing the camping gear with you, at the camping area of the former park, canopies, tables and chairs are available for rent. It should be noted that at present, only on some lawns of the latter park camping is permitted under the condition of not stepping into the lawn in maintenance.
Hangzhou has many parks and scenic spots with parking spaces and toilets that are camping friendly, some are even available for overnight campers. Besides, cassette stoves are permitted in some parks, such as Tongjian Lake Park, Baima Lake Scenic Area, and Nanhu Park.
