In recent years, the springtime in Hangzhou always sees flocks of mandarin ducks frolicking on the West Lake and Xianghu Lake, creating a vibrant scene.
The cute creatures are originally migratory birds that once came to Hangzhou for a winter. Thanks to the good eco-environment of the city, instead of returning to the north, more and more of them choose to settle down and breed. The ones in the West Lake are busy finding and guarding their "homes", the natural tree holes by the Lake where they mate, lay eggs, hatch them and expect their first baby ducks to be born in late April.
